Kendrapada: Lightning strike during northwesterly killed two more persons including a woman in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Saturday.
As per reports, Sashirekha Barik and her son Rabindra Barik of Jahnimula village under Derabis block of the district had gone to work in their farmland in the afternoon due to scorching heat in the morning hours.
While they were busy in their farm work, northwesterly hit the area at around 5 pm. As strong wind started blowing, the area was engulfed by sandstorm. It was followed by repeated lightning strike and heavy rain.
With no place to take shelter nearby, Sashirekha and her son tried to return home from the farmland. But they were hit by lightning midway, leading to their death on the spot.
It may be noted that as many as four persons were killed in lightning strike as northwesterly hit different places in Kendrapada district on April 16.
