Berhampur: Police seized a live pangolin and arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling the wild animal in Gajapati district on Saturday, two days after an STF team made similar seizure in Mayurbhanj.
Following information about a deal to smuggle the live pangolin, a team of Adaba police in Ganjam district along with Forest department officials conducted a raid at Gurujholi village in Gajapati district.
During the raid, the team seized the pangolin from the spot and arrested the two persons. The seized animal weighed 15 kg, sources said.
The police have registered a case against the two persons under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1072. They have also launched further investigation to ascertain involvement of other persons.
It may be noted that a team of Special Task Force (STF) seized a live pangolin and arrested one person for allegedly smuggling the wild animal near Satkosia-Nalda road in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.
