Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday asked the puja committees in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to seek permission from the local authorities for celebrating Ganesh Puja.
The HC directive came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the president of Budha Ganesh Puja Committee in Cuttack, Shivendra Hata, challenging the order of the twin city police commissioner.
The petitioner sought the court’s intervention to allow the puja committees in the twin cities to organise Ganesh Puja.
Chief Secretary, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Police Commissioner, Cuttack Collector, Cuttack DCP and Commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) were made respondents in the PIL.
On August 13, the Commissionerate said there will be no Ganesh Puja in any mandaps or public place in Bhubanedswar and Cuttack this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
