Balasore: A group of locals staged a road blockade at Jhumpura Chhak in Balasore district demanding adequate compensation to the next of kin of the two labourers, who died on the premises of Chandipur Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) the previous day.
Two labourers were killed and five others suffered grievous injuries after coming in contact with an 11-KV live electric wire on the premises of DRDO at Chandipur in Balasore district on Wednesday.
The incident took place when nine temporary labourers of DRDO’s Military Engineer Services (MES) were engaged in digging the ground for installation of street lights when the drilling machine used by them came in contact with an underground electric wire.
While two of them died on the spot, five others were rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.
On informed about the incident, district collector and tehsildar rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. They also assured free treatment for the injured.
