Bhubaneswar: To help the visually-impaired students to continue with their learning during the lockdown, volunteers have stepped forward to lend their voice for recording audio-books.

Abhaya Mohanta, Co-founder of We4You, which records audio-books for the visually impaired students in the state, told a local daily that the volunteers include passionate youngsters and motivated elderly people, who wish to utilize their spare time for this noble cause.

The process of recording audio-books is simple and it doesn’t require the volunteers to be physically present for recording the audio-books.

The books are scanned and sent to the volunteers through WhatsApp or email.

The audio-books for students of Class I to PG level are recorded in various languages namely, English, Hindi and Odia.

These audio-books are accessible through memory chips, pen drives, compact disks, MP3 players and other storage devices as preferred by the students.

The audio-books are being provided to the specially-abled students free of cost.

“More than 80 new volunteers have joined us for recording audio materials during corona lockdown. Till now we have sent audio books to more than 10,000 active users across the country and state,” said Mohanta.
