Bhubaneswar: The lockdown of liquor stores has cost a bank manager here dearly. The manager, who works at a nationalized bank, was duped of Rs 19,000 while placing an order for alcohol online on Tuesday.
He had reportedly found a website that claimed to home deliver liquor in the city. He placed an order for a beer worth Rs 260.
He received a phone call after placing the order that he had to click on a bar code forwarded to him to confirm the process.
Notwithstanding regular police advisories against such fraudulent transactions, the man clicked on the bar code and received a message stating that Rs 19,000 was debited from his bank.
When the manager tried to call the number, it was switched off. He later filed a police complaint.
It is to be noted that online delivery of liquor is currently not permitted here.
