Lok Sabha Polls: YouTuber Arrested Over Fake News On EVMs
Thiruvananthapuram: A YouTube channel owner was arrested in Kerala for propagating fake news about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Alappuzha South police registered a case against the Venice TV Entertainment owner for allegedly propagating that EVMs involved fraud, reported PTI.
He was arrested for allegedly running a campaign in which he urged people to press for voting through ballot paper instead of EVMs.
The intention was to create a rift and tension in society, police said on its official Facebook page on Wednesday.
Police also said that monitoring of social media has been intensified at the state, district and range in Kerala levels to keep a watch on online content in election season.
Kerala Police shared numbers of various officials who are in charge of cyber patrolling and urged social media surveillance teams to inform them if any objectionable content come to their notice.
