Lok Sabha Results Update: BJD’s Gamble With 33% Women Candidates Pays Off!
Bhubaneswar: The latest trends in Lok Sabha elections results in Odisha indicate that the BJD is leading in 14 seats and BJP in the remaining seven seats. Puri is witnessing a close fight between BJP’s Sambit Patra and BJD’s Pinaki Mishra. In Kendrapara, BJD is well ahead of BJP with Anubhav Mohanty leading by around 40,000 votes.
Of the seven women candidates fielded by BJD, five – Pramila Bisoyi, Manjulata Mandal, Rajashree Mallick, Sarmistha Sethi and Chandrani Murmu – are leading in their respective constituencies. Espousing the cause of women, BJD president Naveen Patnaik had promised to send 33 per cent women to Parliament and keeping with it the regional party had given tickets to seven women candidates for Lok Sabha polls.
