New Delhi: Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi (62), who was serving as Lokpal member, died on Saturday due to cardiac arrest, triggered by coronavirus.
Justice Tripathi was admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre on April 4 after testing positive for COVID-19. He was put on ventilator support for 14 days but showed some improvement a few weeks ago. After his health worsened, he was again put on ventilator support by the hospital.
“He was still positive for COVID-19 and at around 9 pm suffered a cardiac arrest,” medical superintendent of AIIMS Trauma Centre, Dr Amil Lathwal was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Many ministers and lawyers mourned the death of Justice Tripathi.
Lokpal chairperson, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, told The Indian Express “It is a personal loss to me. He was a very positive man and always guided me. I have lost a friend.”
Moreover, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who had practised with him in Patna HC expressed his grief via his Twitter handle.
Justice Tripathi was serving as a judicial member of Lokpal since March 2019. He also served as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court in 2018-19.
