Indian Institute of Mass Communication is the top choice for media education in India. The institute is known for its nine-month diploma courses in language journalism, public relations and advertising and radio and television. The college is known for offering 100 per cent placements. The institute has five regional campuses at Dhenkanal, Amravati, Aizwal, Jammu and Kottayam apart from the main campus in New Delhi. The regional campuses offer English journalism and regional language journalism while New Delhi offers journalism in Urdu, Hindi, English, Radio and television course, PR and Advertisement. The institute also plans on offering a postgraduate course in the near future.

Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (AJ Kidwai MCRC), New Delhi

Ranked number one by The Outlook, this mass communication institute is well known for its top-class education, placements and famous alumni. Shah Rukh Khan, Barkha Dutt, Kabir Khan, Kiran Rao, Loveleen Tandan, Roshan Abbas, Habib Faisal, Shazia Ilmi, Nishtha Jain and several celebrities are from AJ Kidwai MCRC.

The college offers diploma and postgraduate courses in broadcast technology, development communication and many more. The college accepts admission through Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) entrance exam.

Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune

Ranked 1 and 2 by India Today and The Outlook respectively, the 320-acre campus is equipped with requisite infrastructure facilities which one of the best in comparison to other media colleges in India. The college offers an MBA degree in media management while a masters degree in journalism and audio-visuals.

The highest salary offered during the 2019 placement season was Rs 13 LPA while the average salary was 4.78 LPA. Amazon, CNN IBN, Drishti, Hindustan Times, MSL Group, Edelman, Viacom 18, ESPN Cricinfo, Zee, Groupm, Times Now and many more are regular visitors to the campus for hiring purposes.

Asian College of Journalism, Chennai

Known for its extreme practical exposure, Asian College of Journalism is a private college. The college is known for making its students job-ready and specialists in their areas. Founded by The Indian Express group, courses offered by the colleges are in four different streams, print journalism, broadcast journalism and new media, radio journalism and television journalism.

The expense of studying here can stretch beyond Rs 7 lakh and an additional Rs 10,000 is refundable amount is to be deposited as security money. However, it has an excellent track record in terms of academic, placement and infrastructure.

Sadly, the admission process for this year has been closed.

Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (FTI)

If film making, and not journalism, is your knack, here is a college that would satisfy your needs. FTI offers a number of postgraduate diploma courses namely in direction and screenplay writing, art direction, production design, sound recording and design, editing and cinematography and two-year courses in acting. It also offers a one-year postgraduate diploma programme in Feature Film Screenplay Writing. The institute extends postgraduate certificate programmes in direction, sound recording and TV engineering, electronic cinematography and video editing.

It offers a number of scholarships to financially help economically weaker students and collaborated with different film making institutions from different countries like Germany, France, Australia and more to enrich the students.

It is important to make a detailed research before applying to any college, however, it is more important to understand in which field you have a calling for and interest in.
