Bhubaneswar: Moderate thundershower with lightning and surface wind speed reaching 40 kmph may occur in 12 districts of Odisha toll 1.04 pm on Friday under the influence of a low-pressure area, which is expected to concentrate into a depression and thereafter cross the south Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coasts.
An orange warning has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajapur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri.
Notably, state capital Bhubaneswar has also been experiencing rain since this morning.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm along with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal and Gajapati till around 1 pm. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
According to the morning bulletin, the low pressure area over central parts of north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal became well marked and moved over northwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am. “Moving further westwards, it is very likely to concentrate into a depression over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Odisha- North Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to cross the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts around September 27 morning,” it said.
The Odisha government has put 18 districts on high alert as the IMD has predicted heavy rain in the state for two days. The system is likely to cause extremely heavy rainfall in Koraput and Malkangiri districts, while other parts of south Odisha are also likely to experience heavy showers.
