Bhubaneswar: The Low-pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to move northnortheastwards and weaken gradually over central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on April 10.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has also been sounded for Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal during this period.
Light to moderate rain may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Light to moderate rain is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
While nor’wester-induced rain and stormy weather conditions may continue for another two days, light to moderate rain is also likely at some places in the state till April 16.
Yellow Warning
The weather agency has fore light to moderate rain in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts on April 13; Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh on April 14; Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on April 15, and Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada on April 16.
It further stated that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 4 to 5 days across the state. However, mercury may soar past 40 degree Celsius at isolated pockets in Boudh .
