Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure area persisting over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday sounded a red warning for Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 2 days.
According to the weather agency, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls accompanied by thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Koraput and Malkangiri districts on August 26.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati. Districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda are also likely to experience heavy rainfall.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur and Boudh.
On August 27, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri districts. Y
Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir and Rayagada.
While the intensity of rain may gradually decrease during the subsequent three days, the IMD has warned of squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph iover North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coasts from August 28-30.
On August 28, districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on August 29 and Malkangiri district on August 30.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on these two days.
While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue at many places across the state during the subsequent 5 days, it added.
