Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall on Monday under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts.
The system is likely to move west–northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during the next 12-hours and cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the forenoon of August 19.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in these districts till Tuesday morning.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati and Kandhamal.
There is also a yellow warning of heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Puri, Khurda and Cuttack.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
On August 19, heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balangir, and Rayagada districts.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal.
While there is no rain warning for the next two days, Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on August 20-21.
According to the weather agency, squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph may prevail over westcentral and adjoining northwest and eastcentral Bay of Bengal from evening of August 18 till August 20. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely along & off Odisha coasts during this period.
It further stated that heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm.lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may resume at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh on August 23. Thunderstorm along with with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
