Puri: Fifteen years after she was rescued in Odisha’s Puri and then taken to Australia by a family which adopted her, Mamata has now launched an effort to trace her mother.
Mamata, who was just 3-year-old when she was rescued near the Singhadwar outside the Shree Jagannath Temple in the seaside pilgrim town way back in 2007, is now 18 and eager to see her mother.
Driven by the love for mother, who used to eke out a living by begging, Mamata has reportedly written to the Childline with a request to search for her mother.
According to reports, the girl, who has completed her graduation, is likely to visit the pilgrim town in Odisha shortly and step up her efforts to trace her mother.
After Mamata was adopted by the Australian family with adherence to the legal procedure and taken to Victoria, there has been no information about her mother, Basanti.
After receiving the letter from Australia, Childline volunteers in Puri are stated to be making efforts to gather information about the woman and trace her.
The family which has adopted her is stated to be helping the girl in her effort to trace her mother.
