Mumbai: Police have filed an FIR against actor Vivek Anand Oberoi for not wearing a face-mask in public.
Vivek was also fined for violating traffic rules after a video of the actor riding a bike without a helmet and a mask on Valentine’s Day started doing rounds on social media.
With coronavirus cases again rising in Maharashtra, the Mumbai administration had warned on to prosecute those who violate the mandatory mask rule.
“An FIR has been registered against actor Vivek Oberoi for flouting public health safety rules mandated by the government which makes it mandatory for all citizens to wear a face-mask as a precautionary measure to control the outbreak of COVID-19. Action will be taken against the actor in this matter,” an officer at Juhu police station was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
In the video clip shared by Vivek on Instagram, the actor can be seen driving a Harley Davidson with his wife riding pillion, “What a start of this lovely Valentine’s Day with Main, Meri patni aur woh! A refreshing joyride indeed!” he posted.
However, the actor has been receiving backlash on social media because he didn’t just flout traffic rules, but also ignored safety precautions during the pandemic by not wearing a mask. Netizens said that Vivek’s action “sends a wrong message to the youth hence he should be fined for the same”, India Today reported.
On the work front, Vivek was last seen in the Hindi biopic PM Narendra Modi and the Kanadda film Rustum in 2019.
