Balangir: In a glaring lapse of jail security, an under-trial male prisoner (UTP) allegedly had regular sex with a woman intimate at Titlagarh sub-jail in Balangir district. And all this happened with the connivance of some jail staffers.
The matter came to light after the woman filed a police complaint of cheating against the UTP, identified as Tirthankar Patel alias Papu.
According to the complainant, she was imprisoned in connection with a domestic violence case and later released on bail around 45 days ago.
During her stay in the jail, Papu, who is an accused in a GST fraud case, used to come to the women’s cell with the help of two prison staffers.
Papu had then established a physical relation with the woman on the promise of marrying her, she told police.
The woman further said that after getting bail, she visited Papu in jail at regular intervals and also talked to him over mobile phone. She also claimed to have the call recordings in her possession.
However, contrary to his promise of marrying her, the accused suddenly started avoiding the woman.
Feeling betrayed, the woman then lodged a police complaint. Police took the woman for a medical examination and also recorded her statement.
Meanwhile, the Titilagarh SDPO, Surendra Nath Satapathy, has ordered police to investigate the matter.
