Low Pressure Forms Over Bay; Heavy Rain Likely In 20 Districts Of Odisha Today

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay off north Andhra-south Odisha coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

“Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over Central Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over Westcentral Bay of Bengal & adjoining Northwest Bay off north Andhra-south Odisha coasts.”

The system is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha till September 26.

The weather agency has issued yellow warning of heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning at isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts on September 24. Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Nuapada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada.

Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning may continue at isolated places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh on September 25.

The yellow warning for heavy rainfall continues for September 26 at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts.

Though there are no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places across the state during the subsequent 4 days, it added.
