Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, raising the likelihood of heavy rain in different parts of Odisha over the next two days.
The low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today
The weather system developed around 5.30 am under the influence of the upper-air cyclonic circulation that persisted over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Bangladesh on Monday.
The low-pressure area is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal over the next two days. Widespread rainfall is likely to occur across several parts of the state under its influence.
Meanwhile, the weather agency has placed Jagatsinghpur district under red alert. Heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall expected to lash some places during the day.
Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kataka, Kendujhar, Kandhamala, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada and Dhenkanal districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.
People in the coastal region have been advised to stay tuned to official weather updates for any alerts regarding heavy rainfall or associated weather phenomena.
