Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
According to the weather agency, the system took shape under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining South Andaman sea at 5.30 am. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and become more marked during the next 24 hours.
“There is a high probability of cyclogenesis (intensification into a depression) around October 26 while moving nearly northwestwards,” the extended range outlook issued on Thursday said.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, may prevail over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea and east-central Bay of Bengal on October 24. Wind speed is expected to gradually increase to 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, over the central Bay of Bengal on October 25-26, and 55–65 kmph, gusting up to 75 kmph, over the west-central and adjoining southwest and east-central Bay of Bengal by October 27.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is also likely along & off Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh coasts during October 25 and 26.. It is likely to increase becoming squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on October 27.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea in these areas during this period.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms/lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) in Odisha during the next 5 days.
