Heavy Showers Leave Odisha Drenched For Second Day

Bhubaneswar: Life was thrown out of gear in Odisha as heavy rain continued to pound most parts of the state for the second day on Thursday.

According to the morning bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall recorded till 8.30 am on Thursday was highest in Puri with 166.5 mm followed by Gopalpur (104.2), Bhubaneswar (100.2), Paradip (76.6), Cuttack (75), Chandbali (73.7), Balasore (59.6), Phulbani (58.2), Angul (48.8), Daringbadi (38), Sundargarh (34), Baripada (28), Keonjhar (25.8), Koraput (22), Talcher (20), Sonepur (16), Balangir (15.4) and Bhawanipatna (11.2).

However, in terms of block-wise rainfall, Krushnaprasad block in Puri district received the highest rainfall in the state with 249.4 mm followed by Chikiti block in Ganjam district (203).

Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar director HR Biswas said the intensity of rainfall will be less in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada and Bhadrak from Thursday afternoon. But there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Keonjhar districts. Besides, Sonepur, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Angul, Kandhamal, Boudh and Mayurbhanj districts will receive heavy rainfall.

Biswas informed that the well-marked low-pressure over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal has become more marked and is expected to move in the north­-north-west direction towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. It is most likely concentrate into a depression in the next 24 hours, he said.

“There will be a change in the weather condition in Odisha in the next 24 hours (from Friday), barring light to moderate rain at one or two places,” he added.
