Bhubaneswar: Increased precipitation is expected over Odisha from July 29 as the low pressure system lying over Uttar Pradesh is likely to move towards east or south-east, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) at the SOA (Deemed to be University) said on Friday.
“The weather system generally moves from the east towards west during the monsoon season causing the rain to spread from Odisha to Rajasthan, but the low pressure system over UP is likely to move towards east or south-east instead of west or south-west from July 29,” said CEC director Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu.
The former director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, further said that the increased rainfall may be experienced, especially in north Odisha districts from July 29 with heavy rainfall at one or two places. The districts which are likely to receive precipitation are Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore. The rain would spread to other adjacent districts up to August 1 due to movement of cyclonic circulation along with the low pressure system towards the east.
It could intensify into a land depression on July 31 and trigger increased rainfall in north Odisha between August 1 and 5 with heavy rainfall at a few places, Sahu added.
