Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure, which triggered intermittent rainfall and disrupted life in Odisha for 2 days, has weakened and moved over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards across East Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
The IMD had issued yellow warning for six districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 1.15 pm. Light to moderate rain or thundershower along with lightning may occur at a few places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Khurda and Cuttack. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
RAINS & FLOODING
Besides the well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, the active monsoon trough had led to a widespread rainfall across the state with Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Balangir being the most affected. While several localities were submerged in knee-deep water in Balasore city, Patnagarh sub-divisional hospital was flooded after an hour of 41 mm rains.
Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Chandrasekhar Padhi informed that while the Baitarani River has breached the warning level, the Subarnarekha is still flowing 4 metres below the danger mark. He, however, added that there is currently no flood situation in any river, despite over 50 mm of rainfall being recorded in 16 blocks.
“River Baitarani at Akhuapada in Bhadrak district continues to flow at a level of 18.38 m with rising trend which is 0.05 m above its danger level of 18.33 m,” Central Water Commission posted on X.
