Bhubaneswar” Odisha may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday under the influence of a low-pressure area, which is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday further informed about formation of another low-pressure over eastcentral and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around September 25. “Moving west-northwestwards, it is very likely to become a depression over northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Odisha- North Andhra Pradesh coasts around 26th September. It is very likely to cross South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts around September 27,” it added.
The systems are likely to trigger heavy rain in Odisha till September 27. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may also prevail along and off Odisha coast & North Bay of Bengal from Septemebr 21-25.
The weather agency has warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam on September 21.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The intensity of rain may increase on September 22 with heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur. There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir and Nabarangpur districts.
Heavy rain may continue for the next 5 days.
Sept 23: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.

Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Keonjhar.
Sept 26: Heavy rain may occur at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
Sept 27: Heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
