Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain may occur in Odisha for two days under the influence of a low-pressure area over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts, which is expected to move move westnorthwestwards and become well marked during the next 24 hours.

It is likely to move across North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha during the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

This apart, the monsoon trough is passing through Bhatinda, Ambala, Shahjahanpur, Varanasi, Daltonganj, Jharsuguda and south-southeastwards to centre of the low pressure area. Similarly, the east-west trough is also running from central parts of Bay of Bengal to northeast Arabian sea adjoining Kutch across the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area.

These systems are likely to trigger heavy rain in Odisha till August 17.

Orange warning for Aug 13-14

The weather agency has issued an orange warning for Koraput and Malkangiri districts on August 13-14. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir on August 13 and Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh on August 14.

Similarly, thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh on August 13, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir on August 14.

On August 15, Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri,

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may also prevail along & off Odisha coasts, west central and adjoining northwest Bay Of Bengal from August 13-15.

On August 16, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Rayagada, Ganjam and Kandhamal. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

August 17, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Gajapati. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.
