Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a prolonged rainfall warning in Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall in 16 districts in next 72 hours.
The national weather agency, in a mid-day bulletin, said the cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal is most likely to turn into a low-pressure during next 48 hours and move west north-westward and become more marked during subsequent 24 hours.
Under its influence, the rainfall activity in Odisha will gradually increase with heavy rainfall from June 9.
In view of the weather condition, IMD has issued yellow and orange warning for the districts on the following days:

Thunderstorm with lightning and accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Balangir, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur.
June 9
(Yellow warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning and accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places over coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Ganjam and Gajapati.
June 10

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda and Jagatsinghpur.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri and Boudh.
