Bhubaneswar: After a brief spell of dry weather, Odisha is likely to experience light to moderate rain from October 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
“In view of light to moderate rainfall activity over coastal districts of Odisha, ongoing harvesting of matured paddy crops (early to medium duration variety) and vegetables may be completed before October 23,” the Met office said in its midday bulletin.
The IMD has forecast no large change in the maximum and minimum temperature during next 3-4 days and a fall by 2-3 degree C thereafter.
Meanwhile, a low pressure area formed over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal this morning and it is likely to intensify further into a depression over west central Bay of Bengal around October 22. “It is likely to move west-northwestwards initially till October 22 morning and then gradually recurve north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh coast,” the weather agency said.
Under the influence of low pressure area and its further intensification, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 gusting to 65 kmph is expected over the deep sea area of West central Bay of Bengal on October 22 and 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal on October 23 and 24.
“Also squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-65 kmph is very likely along and off Odisha coast from October 24. Sea condition will be rough to very rough over these areas during this period. Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of West central Bay of Bengal from October 22 and over west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal from October 23 and along and off Odisha coast from October 24 till further notice. Those in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by October 22,” it added.
