Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards and concentrated into a depression at 8.30 am this morning over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal about 420 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 600 km south-southeast of Nagappattinam (Tamil Nadu) and 690 km southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
It is likely to continue to move north-northwestwards during the next 24 hours and thereafter gradually recurve west-southwestwards towards Comorin area across Sri Lanka during the subsequent 48 hours, it added.
According to the MeT office, the system will have no direct impact on Odisha, which is likely to experience dry weather till 8.30 am on December 27.

Between 8.30 am on December 23 & 8.30 am on December 24: North coastal Odisha, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi & Kandhamal
Between 8.30 am on December 24 & 8.30 am on December 25: North coastal Odisha, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh & Dhenkanal
The IMD further said that the winter chill will continue to persist in Odisha for another 2 days. “No large change in night temperature during the next 2 days and gradual rise by 2 to 4 degree Celsius thereafter at many places in the state,” it added.
Notably, the mercury plummeted to 6 degree Celsius at Udayagiri in Kandhamal in the last 24 hours. Eight places recorded a night temperature of 10 degree Celsius and below.
