Low Pressure Over Bay: Very Heavy Rain To Pound Odisha Today; Squally Weather To Prevail Along Coast
Bhubaneswar: Very heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha on Friday under the influence of a low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, which is likely to move westnorth-west wards across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand during next 2 days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar. Heavy rainfall(7 to 11cm) may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Jajpur and Jharsuguda districts.
Bhubaneswar is also likely to experience cloudy sky with heavy rain.
The intensity of rain is likely to decrease thereafter.
On July 27, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Kandhamal, Cuttack, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Nayagarh. Heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Mayurbhanj during the subsequent 24 hours.
The national forecaster has, however, warned of squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph over North bay of bengal adjoining Westcentral bay of bengal & along and off Odisha coasts till July 27. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea along and off Odisha coasts, North Bay of Bengal adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal as sea condition is expected to remain rough to very rough.
On July 29, there is a warning for heavy rain at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.
The intensity of rain is likely to increase again on July 30 with the weather agency predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj. Heavy rain may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul and Kendrapada districts.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at many places across the state during the subsequent 2 days.
With heavy rain and flood-like situation likely in the north Odisha, Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu has asked collectors of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul to review the preparedness at the district level and take appropriate action.
