Bhubaneswar: With the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for 13 districts of Odisha.
“Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the north-west Bay of Bengal off West Bengal coast, a low-pressure area was formed over the same area off the North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts around 5 am,” the IMD said in its morning bulletin.
As the low pressure is most likely to move in north-west direction, there will be heavy rainfall in most parts in south Odisha and some parts in coastal Odisha for three days till August 30, it added.
In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued a yellow warning for the following districts.
August 28
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
August 29
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendraparda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal and Boudh.
August 30
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.
