Bhubaneswar: Most parts of north and south coastal Odisha have received heavy rainfall since Tuesday night due to a low pressure formed over the north Bay of Bengal.

The director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas informed that heavy rainfall will continue in the north, south and interior districts for two days till August 21.

According to Biswas, most parts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period.

He stated that the torrential rain will increase the water levels of all major rivers in these eight districts. There is also a possibility that the water levels of Subarnarekha and Budhabalang rivers will rise thanks to heavy rainfall in the upper catchments. However, there will be no flood situation in these districts, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday was highest in Paradip with 81.5 mm followed by Chandbali (52), Bhubaneswar (41.1), Baripada (29), Cuttack (28.2), Balasore (27.7), Koraput (21.2), Sambalpur (18.5) and Malkangiri (14.6).
