Low Pressure Triggers Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain lashed some parts in the coastal and southern districts of Odisha on Sunday after a cyclonic circulation formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal off the south coast of Andhra Pradesh concentrated into a low pressure in the afternoon.

According to a release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, heavy to very heavy rainfall would lash Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sonepur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Bargarh, Khurda and Nayagarh districts in the next 24 hours under the influence of the low pressure.

The release also said that a low-pressure area would be formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal on August 13. Under its influence, heavy rainfall would occur in the north and north coastal districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Sundargarh including the central coastal districts of Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur with isolated extremely heavy rainfall from August 12 and continue till August 15, the release added.

Meanwhile, three persons in Athgarh sub-division in Cuttack district were killed in lightning strikes during heavy rainfall in the afternoon.

The deceased who belong to Bandala Sanpur, Bishnupur and Bindhanima villages, were working in their paddy field when lightning struck them.
