Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department informed on Saturday.
It further stated that the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean during the next 24 hours.
The weather agency has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Tamil Nadu and Kerala & Mahe on February 21-22. Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching (30-40 kmph) is also likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe during this period.
Odisha is likely to experience thunderstorm and lightning on February 23-24 under the influence of the system.
In its midday bulletin on Friday, the IMD had forecast light rain or Thundershower at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Jajpur and Dhenkanal on February 23. Similar weather condition may continue to prevail in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Puri districts during the subsequent 24 hours.
It has also predicted a rise in the minimum temperature by 2-4 degrees during the next 4-5 days with no large change thereafter.
