Lucknow: A 21-year-old youth, Akshat Pratap Singh, has been arrested by Lucknow police for the brutal murder of his father, Manvendra Singh, 49. The incident unfolded following a fierce argument over the son’s career prospects, leading Akshat to shoot his father dead, dismember the body in front of his sister, and hide the remains in various locations, including a blue drum inside their home.

According to reports, Manvendra Singh — a prominent businessman who runs a pathology lab and also deals in liquor trade — was reported missing since Friday last. Ironically, it was Akshat who filed the missing person complaint. However, police grew suspicious during investigation at the family’s residence in Ashiana Sector L.

Upon searching the house, officers discovered parts of the dismembered body stuffed inside a blue drum. Intense questioning by police led to Akshat’s full confession revealing the horrifying details of the crime.

Akshat’s father, Manvendra Singh wanted his son to sit for competitive exams and pursue a medical career. But the son was against it. The two had frequent disputes over it and the young man had even run away from home once over it, according to NDTV.

On Friday around 4:30 am following another heated argument between the two, Akshat grabbed his father’s licensed rifle and shot him dead.

Reports said Akshat then dragged the body from the third floor to an empty ground-floor room. His younger sister, Kriti, a Class 11 student, witnessed the act. When she saw him beginning to dismember the body, he threatened and frightened her into silence. He then packed the body parts in plastic bags, disposed of some near Sadaruna (or possibly Kakori area), and hid the torso and other remains in the blue drum kept inside the house.

Ashiana police swiftly summoned a forensic team where they collected blood samples, including traces found in the family car used to transport parts. Efforts are on to recover all scattered remains of the victim.

Reports said Akshat, whose mother passed away nine years ago and whose grandfather is a retired UP police officer, has been remanded to police custody. Based on the evidence, a case will be registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (formerly IPC) for murder, destruction of evidence, and other charges, with further legal proceedings to follow, police said.
