Panaji: The Luthra brothers linked to the Goa nightclub fire were detained in Thailand, according to media reports. The process has been initiated to deport them to India to face trial, a Hindustan Times report quoting sources claimed.
The report also claims that the external affairs ministry (MEA) is examining a request from the Goa government to revoke the passports of Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra. The Luthras are the co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa, where a devastating fire killed at least 25. Soon after the incident, the brothers had reportedly fled the country. An Interpol Blue Corner notice was issued at the behest of the CBI.
Gaurav and Saurabh booked their tickets on MakeMyTrip at 1:17 am on December 7, a time when firefighters and police were struggling to douse the flames, the HT reported quoting police officials.
Earlier, the MEA had reportedly suspended their passports as per the provisions of Section 10A of the Passports Act 1967. The holder whose passport has been suspended cannot leave the country on such a passport, as per the norm.
