Bhopal: Two people lost lives after an under-construction tunnel caved in here on Sunday. The Bargi canal project’s tunnel caved in at Sleemanabad, about 450 km from here.
Rescuers from the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) pulled out the two labourers’ bodies late on Sunday night. Seven other labourers were rescued by the SDERF Earlier in the day.
“After rescuing seven people, rescuers pulled out the bodies of Goralal Kol (30), hailing from Singrauli district in MP, and Supervisor Ravi Masalkar (26), a native of Nagpur,” Madhya Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Rajesh Rajora, was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The seven rescued workers were admitted to the Katni district hospital after being pulled out of the debris. All of them are doing fine, an official said.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to the Katni district collector and the superintendent of police.
Chouhan ordered the officials to make arrangements for the treatment of the injured labourers.
