Bhubaneswar: Two days after the Centre submitted an affidavit before
the Supreme Court denying formation of an inter-state tribunal to
resolve Mahanadi dispute, Odisha government filed a counter affidavit
before the apex court challenging the move.
In its reply through a 60-page affidavit, the state government stated
that the Centre has violated the Inter-State River Water Dispute Act,
1956 by not constituting the tribunal.
“The Centre’s allegation regarding not providing adequate data needed
to constitute a tribunal is untrue. The Union Government has not
constituted the tribunal despite the state government’s request for
the same over last one year”, the affidavit said.
On Wednesday, the Centre, in its affidavit, had stated that Odisha
government did not furnish the information relating to total crop
requirement, water requirement and basin area, other and facts and
figures needed for formation of a tribunal.
