Mumbai: Mumbai reported its first death due to the Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus and the second in Maharashtra. A 63-year-old woman, who had succumbed to Covid-19 infection last month, was infected with the Delta Plus variant of the virus, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials were quoted as saying.
The deceased woman was fully vaccinated with both vaccine doses and didn’t have any travel history. However, she was suffering from lung infection and had been sick before being infected with coronavirus. The 63-year-old woman had tested positive for Covid-19 on July 21 and died on July 27, reported India Today quoting officials.
Six of her family members have also been infected with COVID-19.
Two of the six family members were detected with the Delta Plus variant. the genome sequencing reports of four members are awaited. The condition of two people infected with the Delta variant remains stable, the report added.
“The two are doing fine and the report of the rest of the four members is still awaited,” a BMC official was quoted as saying.
Earlier, an 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri succumbed to the Delta Plus variant. She had co-morbidities too.
Maharashtra has a total of 65 Delta Plus variants now, 11 are in Mumbai.
