Mumbai: Mahindra has launched its flagship and most expensive car till date, the Alturas G4. Priced at Rs 26.95 lakh for the base variant, it undercuts its competition such as Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour by a good Rs 5 lakh.
The 4WD version is priced at Rs 29.95 lakh and Mahindra has mentioned that these prices are introductory.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is essentially the new generation SsangYong Rexton rebadged as a Mahindra. It is also the first car from Mahindra whose name doesn’t end with an ‘O’.
The butch looking SUV boosts of top of the line safety features such as 9 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active Rollover Protection (ARP), Brake Assist System (BAS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Traction Control System, ABS + EBD and Emergency Stop Signal and Hill descent control. It also has a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Alturas G4 has a first-in-class 360-degree parking camera view. The tailgate has a smart feature in it, if one stands behind it for 3 seconds with the key fob in his/her pocket, it will open.
The 4850 mm long SUV also gets Nappa leather seats with ventilated front seats, dual zone climate control, Apple Car Play/Android Auto, sunroof, mood lighting, LED HID lights and more.
Powering the Alturas G4 is a 2.2-litre diesel engine which makes 178 at 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque. It is paired to a Mercedes sourced 7-speed automatic transmission. The engine is Euro-6 complaint. Mahindra has stated that there will not be a petrol engine or manual gearbox for now.
