Puri: The Bada Danda facing the Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri has now got a new look following shifting of the makeshift shops.
As the Grand Avenue has become wider after the makeshift shop owners vacated the stretch on roadside, the problem of traffic jam has been resolved. Vehicular movement has become smooth.
The local administration shifted the temporary shops as a part of the beautification project around the 12th century shrine.
Following this, stretch from Bada Danda Market Chhak to Singhadwara has now become around 100-feet wide for movement of devotees.
A major portion of the road was earlier encroached by the shopkeepers, narrowing the stretch significantly. Besides, a large number of auto-rickshaws were operating on the road in an unauthorised manner.
It may be noted here that the makeshift shops were shifted from Bada Danda in the first phase from Marichikote Chhak to Singhadwara. In the second phase, the same was done from Market Chhak to Marichikote Chhak for the convenience of devotees visiting the Jagannath Temple.
