Mamata Banerjee Disowns Brother Babun; Is he Joining BJP?
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday cut all ties with her younger brother Babun Banerjee after he expressed displeasure over the party’s choice of candidate for Howrah Lok Sabha seat.
“My family and I renounce Babun…” Mamta told news agency PTI.
“Before every election, he creates a problem. I don’t like greedy people and don’t believe in dynasty politics. I have decided to disown him and cut off all relationship with him,” she added.
Babun had earlier criticised the party for picking Prasun Banerjee, the sitting Howrah MP, by overlooking several capable candidates. “I know didi would not agree with me. But, if needed, I will contest as independent from Howrah Lok Sabha seat,” he had said a few hours before being disowned by his sister.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the estranged brother of Mamata may join BJP.
Babun, however, rubbished these rumours. “As long as Mamatadi is there, I will never quit and neither will I join any other party. Yes, as I am connected to sports I know many BJP leaders… who are also connected.”
Reacting to it, Mamata later said: “He can do whatever he wants to. The party stands by its official candidate – Prasun Banerjee.”
