Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hopes to be back in the field within 2 to 3 days, albeit on a wheelchair.
Mamata, who was injured after being allegedly pushed by unknown miscreants in Nandigram on Wednesday evening, shared a video message on Facebook where she appeals to party workers and supporters to maintain peace.
“I’m hoping to get back on the field in 2 or 3 days. Owing to the condition of my leg, there will be a problem but I will manage. I won’t cancel my meetings… I may have to travel on a wheelchair,” she says in Bengali.
“I am appealing to all to remain calm and maintain peace. I ask all to please refrain from doing anything that would cause problem to the people.”
Recalling the incident, Mamata says: “I was doing ‘namaskar’ from my car, at that time pressure was exerted because of which my leg was hit by the car. In that condition, I had whatever medicine I was carrying and then we left for Kolkata. Since then, doctors have been treating me.”
The chief minister, who filed her nomination for the upcoming assembly elections from Nandigram, suffered injuries on her left ankle, foot, right shoulder, forearm and neck. Though her condition is stable, a series of tests including a CT scan will be conducted to assess her injury.
The Trinamool Congress claimed it to be a conspiracy, while BJP has alleged that this was a tactic to gain sympathy.
Both parties have both moved the Election Commission, seeking a thorough investigation.
