Mamata Taunts Modi: ‘He Will Name India After Himself One Day’
Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee taunted Narendra Modi on Saturday, saying that the Prime Minister will one day name the country after himself.
“What a great leader! Sometimes he thinks himself to be Rabindranath Tagore… sometimes as Swami Vivekananda. Now, he is changing a stadium’s name with his own name. Someday he will make you forget the name of India and name the country after himself,” Mamata said while addressing an election rally at Khejuri.
“Narendra Modi only makes big promises… I will do this, I will do that… You have been in power for six-seven years, what have you done? You did ‘notebandi’, you have destroyed the country’s economy, you have increased unemployment, you have killed migrant workers… You have created riots,” the chief minister alleged.
Mamata went on to counter BJP’s ‘tolabaz’ charge against Trinamool Congress.
“They call others ‘tolabaz’ (extortionist). The BJP government has stolen millions of crores of rupees. They are the feudal lord of ‘tolabazi’,” said Mamata, who took the dais shortly after Modi addressed a rally at Kharagpur.
Trinamool and BJP are locked in a fierce battle to capture power in West Bengal. The 294-member state assembly elections will be held over a period of one month in eight phases, with the first phase on March 27.
