Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee shared a poignant Valentine’s Day message on social media platform X on Saturday, invoking Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry to champion love that transcends caste, creed, class, and religion.
In her post, Banerjee quoted a couplet from Tagore’s poem Anonto Prem (Endless Love): “I seem to have loved you in countless forms, countless times, In life after life, in age after age, forever.” She framed Valentine’s Day as a celebration of love in its myriad forms, urging unity and compassion in public life.
In her message, Banerjee reflected on how this expansive notion of love has shaped her political journey. “It is this spirit of love that has guided my journey in public service. A love for the people strong enough to withstand storms, patient enough to listen, and bold enough to fight for justice and dignity,” she added.
She concluded her post wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day and expressed hope that love continues to thrive. She ended with a message wishing for the long life of love, extending greetings to people across communities.
