Man-Animal Conflict: New Elephant Sanctuary In Odisha Soon
Bhubaneswar: In view of the rising man-animal conflict, the Odisha government has decided to set up a new elephant sanctuary in the state.
Briefing mediapersons here on Thursday, Chief Wildlife Warden Hari Shankar Upadhyay said that the forest reserve area between Ganjam and Kandhamal districts will soon be declared a new elephant sanctuary.
Referring to the death of the people in elephant attack, he said a new infra range device will be installed along the elephant corridors. The new device will capture sounds of the movement of the elephants and alert people in the nearby areas. “We had a discussion about developing this new device with IIT-Bhubaneswar,” he added.
The Chief Wildlife Warden also said the Forest Department will identify the rowdy elephants that stray into human habitations and attach radio collar around their neck to monitor their movement. “This will help the Forest staff to identify the exact location of these elephants and drive them out of the area,” he pointed out.
