Kandhamal: Police have arrested a man for alleged rape of his girlfriend on plea of marriage in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
As per reports, the accused, Asish Mohapatra of Baliguda in the district was in a relationship with the woman, a tribal, for more than a year. She works as a teacher in the Government High School at Baliguda.
On insistence of the woman for marriage, Asish took her to his home. He informed his family about their relationship and plan to get married. But his parents objected to the proposal on the ground that the woman belonged to tribal community.
Two days back, Asish proposed the teacher to go to Raipur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and ger married in a temple. The woman agreed and went with him in a car. On the way, Asish reportedly raped the woman.
On returning to Baliguda, the lady teacher filed a complaint alleging her rape by Asish at the local police station.
The IIC of Baliguda police station told the media that they had arrested Asish on the basis of the complaint filed by the teacher and forwarded him to court on Tuesday.
