Bhubaneswar: A man from Odisha’s Gajapati district has been arrested for allegedly issuing a death threat to Mumbai BJP youth wing president Tajinder Singh Tiwana.
The accused has been identified as Asish Parichha (26), a cashew trader from K Jhalarsing village under Seranga police limits.
According to sources, a police team from Mumbai arrested him with the help of Odisha police on January 12 on basis of a complaint lodged by Tiwana on January 5. He received messages and calls from an unknown WhatsApp number, threatening to kill him and his family if he did not quit the BJP. The anonymous caller identified himself as Sandeep Singh Khalistani, leader of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Khalsa. The messages were also targeted at BJP ministers, RSS leaders and personnel of the Indian Army.
A case under Sections 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC has been registered at Bangur Nagar police station.
The motive behind sending these messages remained a mystery since Parichha was neither affiliated with any political party nor had an enmity with Tiwana, police said, adding that his antecedents were being verified.
