Mysuru: The Delhi Police claims to have arrested the man responsible for sending more than 1,100 hoax bomb threats to institutions across the country, triggering chaos and panic.
Srinivas Louis (47), was arrested from his rented accommodation in Mysuru by a Delhi Police team, accompanied by local authorities, ANI reported.
The threats were sent to a range of high-profile locations, including schools, courts and government offices across multiple states, authorities noted.
Among the institutions that received the threats were the Delhi High Court, the Delhi Assembly and multiple schools and colleges.
Schools across India received between 600 and 700 hoax bomb threats between March 2025 and March 2026. Delhi-NCR alone accounted for more than 500 such incidents, News 18 reported.
In September 2025 alone, more than 300 schools in Delhi received threats in a single day. Additional cases were also reported from Bengaluru, Jaipur, Mumbai, Noida and other cities.
“These threats had led to heightened security measures, evacuations and disruption of normal functioning at several institutions. In one such instance, a judge of the Delhi High Court had also lodged a formal complaint after receiving a threat email,” a police official said, as per the channel.
Louis is a postgraduate, the police said. He is originally from Bengaluru and currently lived with his mother, a retired government employee. Initial assessments suggest he may be experiencing mental distress.
“He deliberately targeted prominent institutions, including courts and educational establishments, to maximise panic,” another official said.
Louis allegedly admitted to sending over 1,100 threat messages across India during preliminary questioning.
The messages were reportedly sent through emails and other digital communication channels, leading to multiple FIRs being registered in different states. Many of the threats were routed through overseas proxy servers.
The police recovered a laptop and several SIM cards from the accused. Officials said the seized digital devices are being analysed to determine the scale and timeline of the threats, as per News18.
“The exact motive will be ascertained after he reaches Delhi and a detailed interrogation takes place,” the official said.
It is also being investigated whether Louis acted alone or had assistance.
