Puri: In a film scene enacted on the roads of the Pilgrim Town, a man was chased and hacked to death in broad daylight on Sunday.
According to sources, while the victim, identified as Biki Nayak of Gopabandhu Colony was going to a market for shopping, more than two miscreants tried to attack him with sharp weapons. As Biki ran to escape, they gave him a chase brandishing the weapons.
The miscreants caught hold of Biki at Raybahadur Lane and hit him with the weapons. Biki sustained grievous injury in the neck and fell down on the road. After the miscreants left the place, the locals rushed unconscious Biki to the district hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
On being informed, personnel from Town police station went to the spot and started investigation after registering a case.
While the identity of the miscreants has not been confirmed, police suspect the attack was the fallout of old rivalry.
