Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a woman lost her mental balance reportedly after her husband filed for divorce as she had turned paralytic 7 years after their marriage in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

According to sources, Monalisa Rath, the only daughter of Tarakant Rath, a retired police officer of Bada Station Road in Chhatrapur of the district was married to Shakti Shankar Baksi, the son of Ramaballav Baksi of Bhismagiri under Digapahandi police station in 2013.

Following their marriage, Shakti and Monalisa, both highly qualified and working in private companies, were staying in Chennai. Monalisa had miscarriage twice in two successive years. Later, they shifted to Bengaluru where Monalisa gave birth to a baby girl in 2020.

After the birth of her daughter, Monalisa was allegedly tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry. Monalisa, who is believed to have suffered a heart stroke due to the torture and mental pressure, turned paralytic and lost her mental balance. As her father came to know about it, he went to Bengaluru and brought her to his house in Chhatrapur.

Though Monalisa’s in-laws did not object her father from taking her, they did not allow the infant to accompany her. She had filed a complaint at Digapahandi police station in this regard at the time.

Meanwhile, Shakti filed divorce in a Bengaluru court one and a half years back and the papers have been to Monalisa. On the other hand, Monalisa has complained to police that her husband filed for divorce her as he wanted to marry another girl. Stating that she would not divorce her husband and wanted possession of her daughter, she has sought police intervention in the matter.

Her father Tarakant also alleged that Monalisa’s in-laws attempted to kill her after she turned paralytic in Bengaluru. The case is now under consideration of the court.
